Subject: Capacity Fluctuation notice
Dear Valued Unique Customers,
We received the below announcement from one of our ocean carriers regarding capacity fluctuation in the months of July, August, and September.
For example, the space allocation for Central&Northern China (Shanghai, Ningbo, Tianjin, Qingdao, Nanjing, and Dalian) service via west coast is getting cut by 2000 TEU (25-40%). For southern china and AWS routes, the space is also being reduced but to a lesser extent. Since January 2007, many carriers have taken similar action by shifting capacity of larger vessels to higher demand markets (i.e. Asia/Europe & Mediterranean). The June 2007 edition of American Shipper has a very good article “Asia/Europe Leading Rate Recovery” which goes into further depth about shifting capacity to meet market demand and freight revenue.
With many carriers shifting capacity to Europe trade, we expect that the space for west coast and east coast will be tight during the traditional peak season (July – September). Cargo selection for the carrier will rely heavily on cargo to port only (west coast or east coast) and away from inland points utilizing the rail. Thus, obtaining space and acceptance of booking from carrier to inland points will be the primary concern.
As in the past, we would suggest that bookings be made a minimum of 10-14 days advance of cargo ready date at factory so that Unique Logistics International can properly plan/forecast space requirements with various carriers.
If any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Unique Logistics International sales executive.
Thank you for your support of Unique Logistics International (ATL).

Owing to vessel
reshuffle between trades in this coming Peak Season (July, August and
September), the capacity of these vessels in below list will be
trimmed for
Asia/North America trade. With less capacity than usual, it's expected that
Carrier will face the challenge of well space control in this period. To
optimize your freight arrangement, we would like to inform your good company in
advance that the weekly allocation we provide might be prorata adjusted base on
vessel size. You are also encouraged to forecast the cargo prospect as
earlier and accurate as you can, which can make us more easier to
make space
assignment in the coming Peak Season.
